    <Abstract>Objectives: To investigate the relationship between serum phosphate concentration and the severity of coronary artery obstruction.  Design: A cross-sectional study.  Setting(s): The data for all patients included in the study were extracted from patient files at a tertiary heart center.  Participants: A total of 184 patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) were included. They were divided into two groups: a case group and a control group, with each group containing 92 patients.  Outcome Measures: Serum phosphate levels in CAD patients were evaluated.  Results: The mean age of the study population was 56.44±11.19 years. The mean serum calcium concentrations for the case and control groups were 9.46±0.48 mg/dL and 9.36±0.35 mg/dL, respectively. No significant difference was found between those with obstructed coronary arteries and the control group (P=0.12). The mean serum phosphorus concentration for the case and control groups was 3.6 3±0.71 mg/dL and 3.7±0.63 mg/dL, respectively, with no statistical significance (P=0.54). The mean calcium-phosphorus product for the coronary artery obstructed and control groups was 33.4±6.78 mg/dL and 34.7±6.17 mg/dL, respectively, with no significant difference between the two groups (P=0.14).  Conclusions: Although previous studies have demonstrated a relationship between serum phosphorus concentration and CAD in patients with kidney disorders, this association was not confirmed in the general population in the present study.</Abstract>
